How to use
This tool takes your net worth and your age, maps you to the right SCF age bucket, and places you on that bucket’s published percentiles. Age matters because net worth rises naturally with time, so we compare you within your own generation rather than against everyone at once.
FAQ
How is my net worth percentile estimated?
We map your age to a Federal Reserve SCF age bucket, then place your net worth on that bucket’s published percentiles (10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th) by linear interpolation. It’s an estimate, not an exact census rank.
Why does age matter for the percentile?
Net worth naturally grows with age as people pay down mortgages and accumulate retirement savings. Comparing a 28-year-old to a 60-year-old on raw dollars isn’t fair, so we compare within your age group.
Is the SCF data current?
The figures come from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, latest full release 2023. The SCF is published every three years, so treat it as a recent benchmark rather than a live number.
